Education Sub-Committee explores Degreed Paramedic Requirement

A sub-committee of the TN EMS Education Committee is visiting regions to solicit feedback on the idea of requiring a degree for paramedic licensure in TN. Current discussion highlights:

  • current paramedics will be grandfathered
  • slow implementation
  • possibility of adding A/P I & II to AEMT program to free up hours in medic school and improve AEMT’s
  • opportunities for more scholarship funding

The sub-committee plans to visit each region by the end of November and develop a “pro/con” assessment with the sub-committee reconvening around the first of the year to review the findings.
